Enemy Pie!

After reading our new favorite book, Enemy Pie, we earned 'pie points' until we had filled up the pie.  Then we got to make our own version of Enemy Pie!  We started with mud and added worms and old fish, dirt, string...all kinds of strange things to get rid of enemies.  Then, of course, we ate it!  Now we'll forever be friends!  Strangely and disgustingly delicious!

Watermelon Day!

There's no better way to celebrate the coming of fall than to have a First Grade Watermelon Day!  We had some great activities all centered around watermelon.  We learned about how they grow, played games, read stories, saw weird watermelon pictures, sang a new watermelon song, and, of course ATE watermelon!! It was juicy and delicious.

First Graders Get More Recess!

The kids say that more recess was one of the things they
were looking forward to the most when they started first grade!
Plus, they get to play on the 'big kid' playground!!!

"We Are Busy Bees" Song

We definitely have been busy this first week of school.  We're like busy bees, working hard together to get things done!  This is such a great group of kiddos!  And boy do they love to sing!  What fun we have together!

Back to School!

We're back!  I've put new paper on the walls, filled up the band-aide drawer, gotten extra treats for the treat jar, and labeled everything I could think of.  It's showtime!  What an exciting time of year!  We've had a wonderful first couple days!  The kiddos in my class are amazing this year and so much fun!  I'm sure they've been going home very tired each day because the days are long and HOT!  So if we can keep from melting in the classroom each afternoon we'll be doing great!

Pancake Day!

We had a blast last Friday on Pancake Day! We learned how to flip them and raced with pancakes in our 'pans'. We heard some great stories about pancakes, made our own pancake man and then ended the day eating delicious pancakes that we got to top the way we wanted to. What a day!

Thanksgiving - Our Most Thankful Thing!

We had an author's celebration just before Thanksgiving where we got to publish our latest book; Our Most Thanksful Thing and share them with our families. This time we published ddigitally and made a little 'movie' of our book. The kids loved recording their voice reading the text, and despite a couple technical difficulties, it was a hit!

We had a great time this month learning about the Native American Indians, doing some sand art, learning to dance and make music, listening to stories and especially enjoying our 'popcorn day!' Even though it was a lot of fun to learn about, we're quite thankful that we live now, and not in the days of the pilgrims and indians!
