Book of the Month...Stand Tall Molly Lou Mellon!

Our book this month is a fun story of an interesting little girl, Molly, who learns some valuable lessons from her Grandma that help her deal with the challenges that come with being 'different'. We're also trying to remember those same things. These are the four lessons her grandmother taught her:

“Stand tall and the world will look up to you.”
“Smile big and the world will smile back at you.”
“Sing out clear and strong and the world will cry tears of joy!”
“Believe in yourself and the world will believe in you too.”

Dad's and Donuts!!!

This morning the PTA handed out milk and donuts before school!!! Our dads came with us and after we munched down on a delicious donut, the Dads read stories and got to see our classrooms! It was so fun to have the dads there. What a great way to start the day!

Wow! Amazing Experiments!

Last week we had 3 amazing scientists: Kye Headman, Conner Houghton, and Lexie Bishop. Kye showed us how to make chocolate chips and raisins 'dance' in soda water. Connor made an egg actually float using salt water! Lexie used oil, water, and food coloring to make a type of lava lamp bottle. It was so cool!

We love our country!

We have had a wonderful time the last couple weeks learning about what it takes to be a good citizen. We've also really enjoyed learning about some of our national monuments and symbols. We especially loved how we felt as we learned about our National Anthem. The children truely appreciate what that special song and our flag represent. In fact, one sweet story is that last Wenesday I had to leave the class for about 15 minutes. As I was leaving I had asked Mrs. Spencer share a book with the class about Symbols of America. It had a little paragraph about the Star Spangled Banner. As she started reading it, the children broke ot into song and she was completely moved by their love and their sweet spirit that they shared. They are such a sweet class with such tender feelings! When she shared this with me I was like a proud Mama!

Today's Experiements

Will experimented with different objects testing to see if they would sink or float in water. It was cool to see the catsup packet float, but then sink when his dad squeezed the bottle hard.

Gavin showed us how dry ice reacts to being put in a bowl of water. We loved watching him blow the 'smoke' around.

Katie tested water and oil to see if they would mix. Then she put some food coloring into the mixture. It was amazing to watch the drops break apart and then finally mix when they got into the water! What a great day for science!

Our first Science Experiments!

Thursday we had our first student sciene experiments. We were all so excited that we could hardly stand it! Calvin did an incredible experiment where he lit a match and put it in the bottle then sucked an egg through the opening as the fire used up all the oxygen!

Marissa showed us how she could keep a ball inside a bucket just by spinning it around and around. She even did it with water and the water! Amazing!

Ashley showed us how the dish soap help to break the surface tension and made the pepper all scoot away from the toothpick. It's so cool how science helps to explain things that seem like magic!

Enemy Pie!

Our book of the month for September is Enemy Pie! We loved reading the story together and have had some great discussions of how to make and keep friends. After reading it we made our own enemy pie. It looked pretty scary, but the kids all thought it was awesome! The kids can't wait to take the book home and share it with their families!
