School Rocks!

Learning about rocks really rocks!! Stone is applying pressure and time to some 'sedimentary rock. Then we added heat to turn it to metamorphic rock! It was way cool!

We also made our own crystals using borax and water. They crystalized over night. We discovered that adding food coloring really doesn't make a difference because the crystals don't absorb the color. But the crystals turned out cool though.

We got to make igneous rock 'crayon' by completely melting crayons and then letting them cool. Then we each got a piece of the rock/crayon to take home.

Bees, Please...

Our Brassica plants have been growing so fast that they're now ready to be pollinated! We learned about the importance of flowers today and got to be the bees, moving from blossom to blossom moving the pollen around. Now we'll continue to watch as the flowers mature and the pistil grows longer. We should start to see the 'fruit' or the seed pod in a few days. This has been a fascinating discovery!

This is Silas as he looks for any changes to his plant. It's growing taller every day and has started to make some buds that will be opening up as flowers pretty soon. We've predicted the color of the blossoms as maybe pink or yellow.

Happy Birthday Dr. Seuss!!!

What a Fun day we had as we celebrated the 'Seussical' Way! We had fun all day learning about the very interesting author, Theodore Geisel. We used our imaginations in all ways possible, ate birthday cake, and had loved the read-a-thon!

Rocks or Minerals?

We had a great time learning about how rocks are made up of minerals. We got to disect cookie=looking rocks to find and sort the different minerals inside. We found diamonds, emeralds, crystals, rubies, and several other 'unknown' minerals.
